Ritual Art is a conceptual art movement created in 2012 at The Old School Art Residency, Gorna Lipnitsa, Bulgaria.
It emerged as an attempt to restore the lost connection between art and its primordial sacred nature, when image, word and action were not merely forms of expression, but acts capable of influencing reality itself. Between the visible and the invisible. Between memory, archetype and lived experience. Between the human being and that which exists beyond the rational, beyond the noise of everyday life.
Ritual Art connects layers of folklore, mythology, rituals and archetypes with contemporary artistic forms, not as a quotation from the past, but as a search for new meaning and a new spiritual space within the present.
In Ritual Art, we do not seek merely form or aesthetics, but content with a clear intention to transform reality in accordance with the will and ideas of the creator.
Ritual Art is not a closed theory or a fixed system. There is no final point in its definition. It continues to evolve through each edition of the residency, through the encounters between artists, the processes, the texts, the actions and the experiences that emerge here.
We continue to add new aspects, questions and definitions. Ritual Art itself keeps changing together with the people who pass through it.
